Probing by Bill Myers, Frank Peretti, Angela Hunt, & Alton Gansky

Image
If you are looking for a clean, adventure-packed series to read, the Harbingers is a great one. Probing written by best-selling authors Bill Myers, Frank Peretti, Angela Hunt, and Alton Gansky is the third in this series. Like the first two books in the series, Probing is four stories in one book, with each story by a different author. It is written to be kind of like an ongoing television series.  Probing features the same team of four that were in the first two novels: Brenda the former tattoo artist with visions of the future; The Professor who is an athiest ex-priest; Andi the geeky Professor's assistant, and  Tank the big-hearted former football player with a gift for healing. Probing starts with Myers' story called Leviathan where the team of four is invited to watch the pilot of a new realty show called, Live or Die: The Ultimate Reality.  The second story, The Mind Pirates, features Peretti's mystery of an earring that Andi discovers has mysterious powers.

Nourish by Katie Farrell

According to Katie Farrell, Nourish is not just another diet or health book. Instead, Nourish shares how readers can pursue better health from three different aspects: spirit, soul and body. Nourish is written by someone who has been there. Farrell shares her own personal story about how she overcame her food struggles with God's help. Her writing shows how how she looks to God for guidance as she writes on page 174, "Instead of thinking about ways to give in to my sinful cravings and desires, I now long to honor God with my body and worship Him with everything I do, think, and say. By no means does this mean that I am perfect or have everything together; in fact, the very reason I am writing this book is that I understand the struggle!" Each chapter offers a part of Farrell's story along with helpful information to improve your own health. At the end of each chapter, she shares a Scripture, reflection questions, prayer and a recipe. Some of the recipes includ

Sacred Rest by Saundra Dalton-Smith, MD

As the back cover of Sacred Res t says, "Staying busy is easy, Staying well rested--now there's a challenge." In our modern world today, how true are these words for you? Saundra Dalton-Smith is not only a medical doctor, she is a mom to two boys, a busy wife, and carries several other roles like many women today. Sacred Rest is written from the point of view of someone who understands what it is like to be tired and in need of rest. Yet, Dalton-Smith also shares how she looked to God to help her and those of us who read her book to find the rest we need. She purposely wrote the book with short chapters so that you can read it in bits and pieces to fit it into your schedule and then take the time to apply it to your life. In part 1, "Why Rest?" Dalton-Smith help you understand different types of rest so that you can see which ones that you need the most. In the second section, "The Gifts of Rest," she discusses the spiritual aspects of rest in 12

Praying the Scriptures for Your Adult Children by Jodie Berndt

Image
I especially like the sub-title for Praying the Scriptures for Your Adult Children : Trusting God with the Ones You Love. I think that really says what we are doing when we pray. God is worthy of our trust and we have to trust that He cares for our children more than we even do. Praying the Scriptures for Your Adult Children by Jodie Berndt is divided into 5 sections: Praying for Your Adult Child, Praying for Your Adult Child's Relationships, Praying through the Milestones in your Adult Child's life, Praying for your Adult child's Health, safety, and well-being, and Praying for your adult child's victory over temptation. Each section has three to five chapters within it. Each chapter offers both practical advice and encouraging stories from other parents. At the end of each chapter there are prayers taken from Scripture where you can insert your child's name and pray those verses for your child specifically.
