Lone Star Sweetheart by Shannon Sue Dunlop

 Lone Star Sweetheart

Are you looking for a new lighter read? Lone Star Sweetheart by Shannon Sue Dunlop is one you should consider. This is my first read by this author and I am looking forward to more books since it is the first one in a the new Sweetheart series.

Katherine Bruno is a small town gal in Sweetheart, Texas. As a Christian, she often tries to bite her tongue, but many times she ends up telling things like she sees them. While known to be blunt, she loves her small town and the townspeople. When Ryan Park comes to Sweetheart to help the mayor seek re-election as his political consultant/campaign manager in the race against the mayor's wife, Katherine is intrigued by the handsome new man in town. The mayor's wife then hires Katherine as her campaign manager. Does that then make Ryan and Katherine enemies?

Lone Star Sweetheart is full of wonderful small-town characters. The setting is quaint. I enjoyed the banter between Katherine and Ryan. I also enjoyed the antics played with some of the characters. Lone Star Sweetheart also has a mystery unraveling as the campaign heats up. Is someone trying to sabotage the race or are there just a few strange coincidences on the campaign trail?

Katherine is blunt but she does grow on you. I liked Ryan from the start, but he is not without a few faults of his own. Both characters are likeable and real. I enjoyed their growing romance. The mystery adds to the plot and helps the reader to keep turning pages until the end. I enjoyed the ending and the  small town changes that I didn't see coming. Lone Star Sweetheart is a fun book that would make a great summer beach read--or a great read anywhere!

I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions within this review are my own.
