In Search of Wisdom: Life-Changing Truths in the Book of Proverbs by Joyce Meyer

Image
Do you have favorite books in the Bible? Proverbs is one of mine. I like the practical day to day advice. Today, Joyce Meyer's new book about Proverbs releases: In Search of Wisdom .  In Search of Wisdom is a straight forward book with a chapter on each of the 31 chapters of Proverbs, an introduction and a conclusion. In the Introduction, Meyer encourages readers to read each book of Proverb before reading the corresponding chapter. In each chapter, Meyers then shares commentary on verses throughout the chapter. She also asks questions to inspire you to think about how you are living your life with respect to the wisdom of the verses in that chapter. Meyer emphasizes how important wisdom is to living a life for God throughout the book. In the conclusion, she once again illustrates just how important it is. I appreciate how practical and easy to read In Search of Wisdom is. Meyer always offers straightforward commentary and does  a great job of helping readers understa...

Galations: A Biblical Study by Joyce Meyer

Image
Galatians: A Biblical Study by Joyce Meyer is another gorgeous book with practical applications in her new Biblical study series. Galatians: A Biblical Study starts out with an introduction to Galatians. Meyer then expounds on Galatians in 16 chapters and concludes with some closing notes. In Galatians, Paul gives a lot of good advice for dealing with people with come in contact with on a daily basis as Christians. In this book the reader may learn why it isn't a good idea to be a people-pleaser, how to handle other people's faults Biblically, how to avoid being self-righteous, and how to best walk in the Christian Spirit from day to day. This study in Galatians could be helpful for Christians in any stage of their Christian walk but I think it would be especially helpful for new Christians as it offers so many practical ways to live the Christian life. I like the design of these books--they are easy to read, easy to understand for any layman, and they have space to wri...

Colossians: A Biblical Study by Joyce Meyer

Image
Joyce Meyer's new Biblical study book, Colossians , is both a practical, helpful Bible study with beautiful design. Colossians starts with both an introduction on how to read the book and an introduction telling about the book of Colossians. Meyer then offers 14 chapters full of information from the book of Colossians written to help you keep your faith and God and live a better Christian life. She says that the first chapter of Colossians alone includes twelve different lessons to incorporate in to your life. She encourages readers to go through the book slowly, read the Scriptures and reflect and to try to slowly live out the lessons that you are learning. I like that Meyer writes in such a way that I can easily read and understand what she is saying to better learn how to apply the lessons from Colossians to my life. It is definitely a book that you will want to take your time reading and working through. I like how nicely this series is put together in that they are well-...

James: A Biblical Commentary by Joyce Meyer

Image
James, A Biblical Commentary by Joyce Meyer is one of the nicest Biblical commentaries that I have used as a layperson. This commentary on James is especially user friendly. In the introduction, Meyer tells about James--when it was written and some of the history behind this book and the man who wrote it. Joyce then goes on to break the book of James down into chapters and expound on each one. She also includes space to ask yourself questions and to reflect on what you have read. Meyer's commentary on James is both beautiful on the outside and practical on the inside. The Biblical book of James is one of my favorites. I like her key reminder that we must have faith in God first and then we will do the good works that glorify Him. And that is the key, God is to get the glory and we are reminded that we don't and we need to have the faith to reflect Him to others. I truly appreciate Meyer's hard work to make this book so easy to understand and practical to use for the...

Ephesians: A Biblical Commentary by Joyce Meyer

Image
Joyce Meyer's new Bible commentary on Ephesians is as gorgeous as her new commentary on James. These beautiful books are also quite helpful and practical to use. Meyer starts out telling the reader about the writer of Ephesians, which is Paul, and the timeline in which it was written. I like Meyer's reminder that before we even start studying Ephesians we need to remember Paul's circumstances and the reminder that "no matter how difficult your life may be during certain seasons, remember to do all you can do to bless, help, and encourage others." If we would all remember this, I wonder how much better our world would be right now? Meyer goes through the book of Ephesians slowly as a commentary should, but she also writes this book so one can easily understand it. I remember looking at some old commentaries years ago and feeling quite lost. Yet, with the Joyce Meyer Biblical Commentary, I think both new believers and those who have been in the faith for a lon...
