I Want to Trust You, But I Don't book and Companion Guide by Lysa Terkeurst

Have you ever been betrayed by someone you trusted? I think probably many of us have had that happen to us at one time or another or maybe even more than a few times in our lives. Lysa Terkeurst wrote a book dealing with that issue called I Want to Trust You, but I don't. There is also a Bible study workbook to use with it that comes with a streaming video.

I have followed Lysa for a lot of years and have read several of her books. I always appreciate her honesty and integrity in writing about her struggles from a Christian perspective. I also think she shares her voice in such a way as to turn the reader towards God and towards having wisdom in their own situations through prayer. I appreciate her honesty in how she shares her story and I also appreciate how she shares that it was not an easy journey to walk. I think her truthful heart and down-to-earth words could be helpful the readers who needs it. Lysa also clearly explains types of abuse and how to talk about the abuse. She also talks about organizational abuse and how to handle that issue.

I like how at the end of each chapter in I Want to Trust You Lord, But I Don't there are short sections that are all helpful. "Remember" offers the high points from the chapter. "Receive" is a section of Bible verses that God has given for the topic covered in each chapter. "Reflect" are questions to ask yourself after reading the chapter and verse. Then there is a prayer to pray if you want at the end of each chapter. 

The Bible Study Guide is divided into six sections/sessions. This guide contains personal study questions and group study questions. There are a lot of Bible verses to look up and learn from as well. This is a study that could be done as a group or could be done alone or working with a counselor. I like that she offers tips in finding a counselor as well as a counseling data resource at the end of the book(s).

Some Like it Scot by Pepper Basham

    Some Like It Scot by Pepper Basham was an enjoyable swoon-worthy read for those of us who like Scotsmen. Katie Campbell is a popular travel writer who visits Scotland as part of a three-week Edwardian Immersion Tour. Katie is known as Miss Adventure. . .which is somewhat a play on words as she often gets herself into scrapes or "misadventures." Graeme MacKerrow is in the just the right place at the right time to be a part of Katie's first misadventure in Scotland. From that moment on, the relationship is off to a fun start. I so enjoyed getting to know Graeme (Pronounced Gray-ham) and his family through the eyes of Katie. I could relate to how she was drawn to his warm and caring family. I also loved getting to know Katie. Both were fun characters. I enjoyed how they shared humor and how they got to know each other through the book.
