Hearts in Circulation by Sarah Monzon

Hearts in Circulation by Sarah Monzon is the second book in the Checking Out Love series. I have been anticipating this read ever since I finished the first book, An Overdue Match. It did not disappoint!

As the circulation librarian, Hayley Holt drives the "new" book mobile which is anything but new. It is an old VW bus donated by the mayor to score political points. On the first day on her new route, the book mobile breaks down about the same time as a rock slide blocks the road near her first stop at Turkey Grove. Hayley is thankful for enough cell service to call a tow truck.

Mechanic Levi Redding comes to Hayley's rescue and tows her and the book mobile into Turkey Grove. Turkey Grove is a tiny town with few residents. With the rock slide blocking the road, Hayley is forced to stay with Levi until the state fixes the road again since there are not hotel style accommodations in town.

I enjoyed getting to know Hayley and Levi through Hearts in Circulation. I liked both characters even though Levi was grumpy to start with. I also like that the author writes characters who face real life challenges like sensory processing disorder. My son has SPD so I have a first-hand understanding of it. I liked the humor the author included as she had me laughing out loud a few times. I also enjoyed the literary references throughout the book. I think that aspect will be fun for most ardent readers. In the back of the book, there are book club questions. Hearts in Circulation would make a fun read for a book club.

I received a copy of this book from the author and the publisher. All opinions are my own. Hearts in Circulation releases on November 18, 2025 from Bethany House Publishers.
