Even After This by Deborah Clark

Meredith Harper has not really living life very well since her husband and two children died in a car crash four years earlier. This year, she has decided she is going to make her life count and start really living once again. With that in mind, she travels to Colorado Springs and spends a week considering an investment property there.

Harlan Holcombe is an actor on a break who is also staying at the same resort in Colorado Springs. When he meets Meredith there, there are some sparks.

Soon, Meredith and Harlan are spending some time together. Can Meredith move on with her life? Can Harlan handle the hard stuff with Meredith? What about his struggles with his Ex and his little girl, Alex?

I was so excited to read Even After This by Deborah Clack from Haven Publishing. Haven is a new clean reads imprint from Baker Publishing House. Sometimes I just want a clean read without spice and cussing so I am excited about the new imprint.

Even After This is also written by a new author. I thought this was a good first novel. Overall, it was sort of like a Hallmark movie in book form. It was interesting to get to know all of the characters. There weren't too many introduced at once so it was easy to keep everyone straight. I didn't always get the humor of the author but humor is subjective for everyone so you may laugh your head off. I see this is a start of a series. In the back of the book, there is a little preview of the next book and I think I would read that one too based on the preview. This book was at times, pretty sad and heavy. It's a book I would recommend with a trigger warning if you are grieving a loss yourself--especially of babies or small children. I am not grieving but I thought it was heavier in places than I expected from a book that is labeled a rom-com. There are book club questions in the back and it could be a good book for a book club discussion. I have to add that I think the cover is beautiful.

I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.
