The Light of the Stars by Jenelle Hovde
It has been several months since I have read a historical fiction novel. . .The Light of the Stars by Jenelle Hovde was a wonderful read to break back into the genre.
Kitty Grenville is expected to wed Sebastian Sinclair. The last time they met, they were children, and it didn't go all that well. When Kitty was a child, The East India Company via her grandfather tore her and her brother from their parents in India and took them to England to live with her grandfather. Sebastian represents that very company, which doesn't win him any points to start with.
Sebastian, for his part, goes to England to wed Kitty to fulfill the long-standing betrothal set up by their grandfathers. While Kitty makes it clear she doesn't want this marriage, Sebastian is attracted to her keen mind and spirit and chooses to give them time to get to know each other. He won't force her to marry him but hope she will come around.
Kitty takes her time but is then involved in a scandal and does decide to marry him. The plot of The Light of the Stars left me quickly turning pages. There is mystery and history. I like how Kitty is interested in the stars and continues to hope that she will see her mother again. She is also strong minded and intelligent. I like how Sebastian woos Kitty. I also loved how he was an upstanding man at this time but also made some mistakes in his past so he was not perfect. I felt some parts were pretty swoony in this closed-door romance. In the last part of The Light of the Stars, I liked how the author wrapped the story up and worked several issues out, which solved some of the lingering mysteries throughout the book.
At the back of the book, there is information about the real-life people and times the book is based on, which I found interesting. I love how this book is based on actual history. There are also good questions at the back of The Light of the Stars for those who would like to use this book for a book club.
I received a copy of this book from the author and the publisher. All opinions are my own.
The Light of the Stars by Jenelle Hovde releases on July 14 from Tyndale House publishers.

What a lovely review!! Thank so much for reading and sharing ~ Jenelle
